ENGR2330 - Intro to Mechanical Prototyping

3D Printed Legged Crawlers

Students were encouraged to take advantage of the unique features of 3D printing in the fabrication of legged crawler prototypes using a Stratsys Dimension 1200es fused deposition modeling machine. Every project was built around a standard drivetrain and was required to locomote without user intervention. Many projects tested the capabilities of the 3D printing manufacturing process, producing features like spherical joints, complex linkages, and integrated spiral clock springs.
